1918- was born at Qunu, near Umtata

1944- he founded the ANC youth League

1952- Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa

1962- Mandela was arrested and sent to prison in Robben Island prison

1990- He was eventually released from prison

1993- Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize together with F.W.De Klerk 

1994- He was elected as the first president of South Africa through election

1999- Retired as president

2013- He died
